Perforating Machine and PerforationTechnology at Platinum Packaging

The Platinum Packaging Group (PPG) has added even more capacity to our ever-growing capabilities with the introduction of a STEWARTS OF AMERICA high speed hot pin perforating unit with quick change tooling capability, the latest generation perforating machine.

Just this week, we received and installed our brand new Hot and Cold capable Needle/Pin perforating machine. This unit is capable of working widths up to 60”/1524mm, and has STEWARTS OF AMERICA QUICK CHANGE TOOLING capability, which is unique to the industry. This innovation will reduce our tooling changeover times dramatically, allowing us to get to your order faster. The perforating unit is also capable of high performance—with speeds up to 750 ft / 250mt per minute.

New Perforating Machine

This new perforating machine complements our offering of a 2nd 40” needle perforator and a 60” Micro hole perforator that was just purchased over the last 3 years.

Platinum Packaging Group offers perforation technology on lidding films (both limited, coated and extruded), overwrap, and many types of vertical and horizontal roll stock.

Applications vary, from controlling respiration in produce to affecting moisture and gas retention and/or escape in heated applications. With the correct hole size and frequency, we can actually crisp products when they are heated or microwaved.

PPG’s various perforation technologies means we can offer a sophisticated solution for extended shelf life, steam release gas or water vapor transmission rate control.

Perforated Rolls

Min hole Size 125 to 175 Micron / Max 1500 Micron Approx. Current Needle Hole Patterns Available are 30 and or 60 Holes Per Square Foot. We have 2” and 4” Wide Perf Collars (60 holes 2” and 4” collars. 30 holes only 4” collars).

In addition to perforating for our own customers, we are open to toll perforating with material that is delivered to our location.

The Platinum Packaging Group continues to invest to meet our customers’ needs!

Sustainable PET Films and Cold Overwrapping Films

Update On Our More Sustainable PET Film & Compostable Overwrap Films

Update On Our More Sustainable PET Film & Compostable Overwrap Films 500 500 Platinum Packaging Group

In 2019, The Platinum Packaging Group (PPG) introduced its new Sustainable PET Films and Compostable Cold Overwrap Films. We launched this line to address the growing demand for films that guarantee the production of recyclable packaging comprised of a recycled content.

The PLATSEAL ECO LINE of films provides sustainable PET films with a minimum of 35% post-consumer recycled PET in its composition. This technology is currently available in our ovenable PLATSEAL Overwrap HSPET line. We plan to introduce this into the line of PET coated PLATSEAL GP lidding films as well.

This initiative is just one component of PPG’s long-term, demonstrated commitment to preserve and protect the environment. PLATSEAL ECO LINE polyester films is a major part of our vision to end plastic waste. 35% was chosen to match the current PET recycling rate in North America and offer a sustainable supply chain.

Our films reduce our carbon footprint, remove plastic from our landfills and contribute to a circular economy. For example, 1,000 lbs of PLATSEAL ECO LINE film will remove 11,000 PET water bottles (20 fl. oz.) from landfills. This offers the “perfect choice” in terms of a sustainable PET Film solution in the market. Additionally, for cold overwrap applications, we now offer PLATWRAP Cold PLA compostable overwrap. This is derived from plants and composts into carbon dioxide and water in less than 90 days.

There is now a larger push for a national tax on virgin plastic, which is gaining larger momentum with the US senate.  With activity on ocean and climate issues, legislation is being proposed for a 20 cents per lb fee on virgin material to boost recycled content of materials.

The legislation, called the REDUCE (Rewarding Effort to Decrease Unrecycled Contaminants in Ecosystems) Act, would put an excise tax on virgin plastic, starting at 10 cents per lb in 2022 and increasing to 20 cents 2024. It would apply to single use applications including packaging, beverage containers, bags, and foodservice products.

The momentum is growing steadily and we’re seeing a marked increase of all types of products used in society being produced using recycled material.
